What is root canal treatment?

Endodontic treatment or Root canal treatment is a critical procedure performed by an endodontist to treat the inflamed/ infected pulp (blood vessels & nerve) in the center of the teeth.

Endodontist is a dental specialist who performs root canal procedures and keeps us pain-free!

The endodontist will first use a local anesthetic to numb the teeth and then clear the infected pulp and fill it with biologically compatible material to insulate the tooth.

How long does it take to complete a root canal?

Single endodontic root canal procedure for a single tooth can take between 20 minutes to 40 minutes depending upon the tooth being treated. When the tooth is infected severely with swelling multiple appointments may be required.

Is root canal treatment a painful procedure?

Root canal treatments are generally not painful and are performed under local anesthetic.

When do I need a root canal procedure?

When dental caries have encroached, the pulp causes pain, inflammation, and swelling root canal procedures are required.

Sometimes, root canals are performed on vital teeth when the restorations are extensive with repeated restorative failures or when cosmetic procedures indicate root canal treatment.
